Congratulations to Amber Rocheleau who represented Newington at the State Open in the 100 free, for earning All Conference honors in the same event.

Newington is represented in all events at the CIAC Class L State Qualifying Meet, Relays perform well at State Finals Meet.
Newington arrived at the Class L qualifying meet this year knowing that they would be watching at least one of their teammates compete in every swim event at the meet, a first for all of the girls in this program. The medley relay team of Gabriela Targonska, Amber Rocheleau, Lindsay Weaver, and Sarah Nadratowski started the team off with a 9th place finish, earning them a spot in the B final with a career best time of 1:57.65. In the 200 freestyle, Rocheleau finished 18th with a time of 2:04.02, while Nadratowski finished 27th with a lifetime best of 2:06.34. Targonska represented the team in the 200 IM, finishing 34th with a 2:35.19. Weaver qualified for finals in the 50 free, finishing 24th at the qualifying meet with a time of 26.69, and in the 100 fly finishing 19th with a time of 1:03.31. Rocheleau was Newington's top finisher of the day with a 7th place finish in the 100 free (54.37). Nadratowski then saw another best time in the 500 free, finishing 31st with a time of 5:47.11. The 200 free relay team of Nadratowski, Christine Nguyen, Weaver, and Rocheleau also finished 9th with a 1:47.53. Targonska saw a best time in the 100 back, finishing 28th with a 1:06.71, while Erin Abrams rounded off the individual events also finishing 28th in the 100 breast with a 1:17.41. Nguyen, Allison Goegel, Talitha Featherstone-Alston, and Targonska finished off the day with a 17th place swim in the 400 free relay. All three relays improved on their times at finals: Targonska, Rocheleau, Weaver, and Nadratowski finished 9th in the medley relay with a 1:56.63, Nguyen, Nadratowski, Weaver, and Targonska finished 9th overall with the 8th fastest time in the 200 free relay (1:45.93), and Targonska, Abrams, Featherstone-Alston, and Nguyen had the 15th fastest time in the 400 free relay (4:07.18). Weaver represented Newington in both the 50 free and 100 fly, while Rocheleau was once again the top finisher with a 5th place medal in the 100 free.

Newington had an important team win against Berlin. Adrenaline was high and there were many season best and lifetime best performances. The medley relay team of Gabby Targonska, Erin Abrams, Lindsay Weaver, and Sarah Nadratowski took first place by a fraction of a second to start off the meet. Amber Rocheleau (2:02.40) took first in the 200 freestyle, while Gabby Aquino (2:21.55) took third and Jade Kennedy (2:38.62) picked up an important fifth place point. Targonska had a lifetime best performance in the 200 IM with a 2:38.59, taking first place, while Abrams (2:43.46) dropped 3 seconds off her lifetime best to take fourth. Newington picked up important points in the 50 free with Weaver (26.80), Nadratowski (27.48), and Christine Nguyen (28.04) taking first, second, and fourth respectively. Berlin then took first and second in diving, but Hayley Caracciolo had a phenomenal performance for a best score of 163.65. Weaver (1:04.15) then took another first place in a close 100 fly race, while Rocheleau (55.52) and Nguyen (1:01.35) took first and third in the 100 free. Nadratowski (5:50.91) and Talitha Featherstone-Alston (6:18.55) each dropped significant time to take first and third in the 500 free. 200 free relay teams of Abrams, Aquino, Nguyen, and Rocheleau (1:51.41) and Allison Goegel, Julia Remiszewski, Kennedy, and Featherstone-Alston (2:01.86) picked up first and third place finishes. Targonska (1:09.95) took a second place finish in the 100 back, while Abrams (1:17.19) took first in an exciting 100 breast race. Alexa DePase (1:31.57) dropped an impressive four seconds to earn fourth place points in the 100 breast. All Newington needed to win the meet was a second place finish in the 400 free relay, but instead took first and third with the teams of Nadratowski, Nguyen, Weaver, Rocheleau (3:56.41) and Goegel, Featherstone-Alston, Aquino, and Targonska (4:25.34). This win guarantees Newington a winning record in the dual meet season.

Newington sees strong swims from Abrams, Nadratowski, and Nguyen in loss to Hall.
Newington saw their first loss of the season against a very strong Hall team, but there were many season best and lifetime best swims for Newington. Sarah Nadratowski had a strong start to the meet, dropping a second in the 200 free with a 2:09.32, taking third place. Christine Nguyen then had two lifetime best swims in the 200 IM (2:40.48) and 100 free (1:01.50). Erin Abrams had a lifetime best in the 50 free (29.48) and a season best in the 100 breast (1:17.92), taking first place in the 100 breast by less than half a second. Other best times came from Julia Remiszewski (200 IM), Emilia McGoldrick (50 free), and Jade Kennedy (100 back). Amber Rocheleau had first place finishes in the 50 free (25.83) and 500 free (5:26.64), and Lindsay Weaver had a first place finish in the 100 fly (1:06.51).

Newington's medley relay team continues to be dominant with a first place finish with the team of Gabby Targonska, Amber Rocheleau, Lindsay Weaver, and Sarah Nadratowski (2:20.39). Gabby Aquino (2:20.91) and Talitha Featherstone-Alston (2:21.34) then took first and second in the 200 free with lifetime best times, while Weaver (2:35.63) and Targonska (2:40.56) took second and third in the 200 IM. Weaver then picked up a first place finish in the 100 fly (1:05.61) while Rocheleau narrowly defeated Manchester's lead swimmer in the 100 free (54.86). Nadratowski (5:57.24) and Featherstone-Alston (6:27.21) took first and second in the 500 free, and the 200 free relay teams of Aquino, Allison Goegel, Christine Nguyen, Rocheleau (1:55.07) and Erin Abrams, Emilia McGoldrick, Julia Remiszewski, and Featherstone-Alston (2:03.43) also took first and second. Targonska (1:09.87) and Rocheleau (1:13.11) took first in the 100 back and 100 breast respectively, while Abrams (1:20.12) picked up second place in a close 100 breast race. This was the closest meet of the season so far for the Indians, and the win was a great team effort.

Newington sees best times in win over Bulkeley.
Newington saw many season and lifetime best times in their victory over Bulkeley. Talitha Featherstone-Alston out-touched her opponent in the 200 free to take second place with a lifetime best of 2:22.82, just behind Christine Nguyen's first place finish (2:21.15). Sarah Nadratowski then dropped five seconds off her lifetime best in the 200 IM to take first with a 2:35.65, while Emilia McGoldrick dropped nearly 30 seconds to go a 3:15.33. Amber Rocheleau picked up another state cut in the 50 free with a 26.03, while Allison Goegel saw a season best to take second place in the 100 fly (1:21.88) behind Lindsay Weaver (1:04.83). Nadratowski then had a season best in the 100 free (59.90), coming closer to a state qualifying time. Featherstone-Alston had a season best in the 500 free (6:31.73), while Julia Remiszewski saw a lifetime best with a 6:35.58. Erin Abrams (1:19.25), Maddy Jordan (1:29.43), and Alexa DePase (1:35.25) all dropped time from their season bests in the 100 breast. Other best times included Stacey Sheno, Lexi Thompson, Sara Studzinski, Leilanie Perez, Stephanie Lu, and Cassy Begich in the 100 free and Christina Sabatelli in the 100 back.

Newington improves to 3-0 with win over Maloney/Platt.
Newington took a first place finish in the 200 medley relay for the 3rd time this season with the team of Gabby Targonska, Erin Abrams, Lindsay Weaver, and Amber Rocheleau (2:04.66). Sarah Nadratowski (2:11.77) and Talitha Featherstone-Alston (2:24.64) then took first and second place in the 200 free, while Rocheleau took first in the 200 IM with another state qualifying time (2:16.35). Lindsay Weaver then had her third state cut of the season in the 50 free with a first place finish (26.48), and Rocheleau (1:01.73) and Weaver (1:03.85) took first and second in the 100 fly. Nadratowski (1:01.74), Targonska (1:03.68), and Nguyen (1:05.12) swept the 100 free. The 200 free relay team of Gabby Aquino, Nadratowski, Nguyen, and Weaver (1:53.63) guaranteed the win for Newington with another first place finish.

Rocheleau breaks pool record at Middletown High School.
Newington picked up their second win of the season at Middletown High School while celebrating Amber Rocheleau setting a new pool record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:18.33, breaking the record that her sister had set five years ago. Newington's medley relay teams of Gabby Targonska, Rocheleau, Lindsay Weaver, Sarah Nadratowski (2:02.34) and Julia Remiszewski, Erin Abrams, Allison Goegel, and Christine Nguyen (2:14.89) started the meet off strong with first and second place finishes. Rocheleau then picked up her first of two victories of the day with a state qualifying time of 2:00.50 in the 200 free. Weaver (2:33.88) then took first place in the 200 IM, while Nguyen (28.22) and Nadratowski (28.52) took first and second in the 50 free. Divers Hayley Caracciolo (126.70) and Alexa DePase (107.75) had a successful outing with personal best scores, earning them second and third place. Weaver (1:05.71) then picked up her second state cut of the season with a first place finish in the 100 fly. Following Rocheleau's record-breaking finish in the 500 free, Nadratowski finished second with a 6:01.08. The 200 free relay team of Targonska, Nguyen, Gabby Aquino, and Rocheleau (1:51.93) then saw another first place finish before Targonska (1:10.71) secured the win for Newington with a victory in the 100 back.

Newington opens the season with a victory over E.O. Smith.
Newington got off to a fast start against E.O. Smith with a first place finish in the medley relay with the team of Gabby Targonska, Erin Abrams, Lindsay Weaver, and Amber Rocheleau (2:03.15). Gabby Aquino (2:25.14) and Talitha Featherstone-Alston (2:25.42) then took first and second in the 200 free. In the 200 IM, Christine Nguyen (2:45.12) took first place while freshman Julia Remiszewski (2:48.56) took second with a best time of 2:48.56. Newington then saw another first and second finish from Weaver (26.83) and Targonska (28.90) in the 50 free. Hayley Caracciolo and Alexa DePase then made their diving debut. The first place finishes continued with Rocheleau (1:00.32) in the 100 fly, Weaver (58.57) in the 100 free, and Abrams (6:36.94) in the 500 free. Nadratowski (1:00.09) took a second place finish in the 100 free. The 200 free relay guaranteed the win for Newington with the teams of Nadratowski, Nguyen, Targonska, Weaver (1:51.55) and Jade Kennedy, Remiszewski, Allison Goegel, and Aquino (2:02.30) taking first and second, respectively. There were three automatic state qualifying times reached during the meet: Rocheleau in the 100 fly and 100 back, and Weaver in the 100 free.
