Congratulations to Tre Bucchi, Maks Ugrak, Salvo Scata, and Luke Fote for earning all-conference honors for their performance in the 200 medley relay at state finals!

Newington finishes Senior Night meet with a win over Rocky Hill.
Newington took an early lead over Rocky Hill on Senior Night with first and third place finishes from the medley relay teams of Tre Bucchi, Joey Olandt, Maks Ugrak, and Salvo Scata (1:49.81) and Nick Goegel, Nick Jirku, John Famiglietti, and Andriy Grynyk (2:01.75). Newington then went on to sweep the 200 free with Michael Bohlke (2:04.47), Luke Fote (2:05.16), and Sean Vasi (2:08.20) all going best times to take first, second, and third respectively). In the 200 IM, Patrick Juvencio (2:25.01), Eric Tran (2:36.95), and Wyatt Smith (2:36.98) took second, third, and fourth while Ugrak (23.76) and Bucchi (25.25) took first and second in the 50 free. Famiglietti and Grynyk once again took first and second place in diving, and Juvencio (1:04.74), Scata (1:06.23), and Famiglietti (1:14.20) took second, third, and fourth in the 100 fly. Fote (54.80) had a first place finish in the 100 free, and the 500 free was swept by Jirku (5:46.09), Bohlke (5:46.80) and Vasi (5:50.15). The 200 free relay teams of Fote, Juvencio, Scata, and Ugrak (1:39.82) and Goegel, Grynyk, Jirku, and Bohlke (1:47.36) finished first and third to guarantee the senior night win for Newington. In the 100 breast, Newington saw a season best time from Olandt with a 1:13.89, and a lifetime best for Scata with a 1:16.72. Newington celebrated five seniors at the meet: Goegel, Ugrak, and captains Famiglietti, Juvencio, and Olandt.

Newington opened the meet with first and third place finishes in the medley relay with the teams of Tre Bucchi, Maks Ugrak, Salvo Scata, and Luke Fote (1:47.59) and Andriy Grynyk, Joey Olandt, John Famiglietti, and Nick Goegel (2:00.81). Michael Bohlke then took second place in the 200 free (2:06.07) while Patrick Juvencio finished first in the 200 IM (2:24.02). Bucchi (24.90), Scata (25.21), and Nick Jirku (26.78) then took second, third, and fourth respectively in the 50 free. Newington's divers continued to shine with Famiglietti (206.25) and Grynyk (174.20) taking first and second respectively. Juvencio (1:04.40) and Scata (1:05.09) then earned second and third place finishes in the 100 fly, while Ugrak (52.84), Fote (55.32), and Goegel (1:00.60) took second, third, and fourth in thee 100 free. Sean Vasi had his strongest 500 performance of the season, taking first place by more than 6 seconds with a 5:45.04, while Bohlke tied for second place with a 5:51.74. Bucchi (1:02.94) and Wyatt Smith (1:09.79) took second and third in the 100 back, while Ugrak took first in the 100 breast. The 400 free relay team of Juvencio, Jirku, Fote, and Ugrak then took second place in a back and forth race, earning Newington the points they needed to win the meet. This was an important team win for the Indians.

Newington began the meet with a close second place finish in the 200 medley relay with the team of Tre Bucchi, Joey Olandt, Patrick Juvencio, and Salvo Scata (1:51.91). Juvencio finished second in the 200 IM with a season best of 2:24.44. In diving, John Famiglietti finished second with a score of 178.65, while Andriy Grynyk took third with a lifetime best score of 156.95. For the second time in a week, Maks Ugrak (52.92) and Luke Fote (54.98) finished first and second in the 100 free. Nick Jirku swam a lifetime best of 5:46.52 in the 500 free, taking second place, while Sean Vasi (5:51.02) and Michael Bohlke (5:51.90) finished close behind to take third and fourth respectively. Newington's 200 free relays swam well with Fote, Bucchi, Scata, and Ugrak taking first (1:40.97) and Grynyk, Nick Goegel, Bohlke, and Vasi taking third (1:48.35). Bucchi (1:03.45) and Ugrak (1:09.55) then took first in the 100 back and 100 breast, respectively. Wyatt Smith saw personal best times in the 200 IM (2:36.54) and the 100 back (1:12.44), while Eric Tran saw a personal best in the 100 fly (1:19.72).

Newington sees strong swims from Fote and Olandt in loss to Bristol.
Junior Luke Fote and Senior Captain Joey Olandt had strong individual performances in a difficult meet against the Bristol Co-op team. Both Fote and Olandt had best times in the 200 medley relay, finishing second by just 5 tenths of a second along with Tre Bucchi and Maks Ugrak (1:49.87). Senior Captain Patrick Juvencio saw a season best time in the 200 IM (2:24.47), taking second place, while Fote had a lifetime best in the 50 free (25.18), finishing third. Divers John Famiglietti and Andriy Grynyk finished first and second respectively for the second time this season. Juvencio took third in the 100 fly, while Eric Tran saw a lifetime best of 1:19.82 for a fourth place finish. Ugrak (53.74) and Fote (54.97) then finished first and second in the 100 free. Olandt had a strong performance in the 100 breast with a time of 1:14.90, while Matt Montano finished only two seconds away from a lifetime best with a 1:24.16.

Strong team performance leads to win over Simsbury.
Newington had contributions from many different in athletes in the team win over Simsbury. The medley relay team of Tre Bucchi, Joey Olandt, Patrick Juvencio, and Maks Ugrak opened the meet with a first place finish (1:53.36). Michael Bohlke (2:07.31) and Luke Fote (2:07.54) then took second and third in the 200 free, while Juvencio (2:26.70) and Sean Vasi (2:30.64) took first and second in the 200 IM and Bucchi (24.81) took second in the 50 free. Newington's divers competed against a strong Simsbury dive team, and John Famiglietti took third place with a score of 170.50. Ugrak (58.44) and Juvencio (1:04.82) took first and second in the 100 fly, while Fote (54.89) took second in the 100 free. Newington took first, second, and third in the 500 free with Nick Jirku (5:47.41), Bohlke (5:51.29) and Vasi (5:52.66). In the 100 back, Bucchi (1:02.05) took first while Nick Goegel (1:10.01) took third. Ugrak (1:08.76) then guaranteed Newington's win with a first place finish in the 100 breast.

Divers shine, take first and second, as Newington falls to Conard.
Newington's divers, John Famiglietti and Andriy Grynyk took first and second place in diving, with Famiglietti reaching an automatic state qualifying cut. Maks Ugrak had a strong second place finish in the 200 free (1:57.36), while Salvo Scata took second place in the 50 free (25.14). Michael Bohlke (5:50.57) and Sean Vasi (5:50.98) both had impressive performances in the 500 free, taking third and fourth place respectively. Newington had three strong swims in the 100 back with Tre Bucchi taking first place (1:06.08), and Nick Jirku (1:11.62) and Nick Goegel (1:11.65) taking third and fourth respectively.

Newington opens the season with a win over Manchester.
Newington opened the first meet of the season with a strong first place finish from the medley relay team of Tre Bucchi, Joey Olandt, Patrick Juvencio, and Maks Ugrak. Bucchi had an impressive meet with two first place finishes in the 50 free (24.99) and 100 back (1:04.04). Ugrak took first place in the 100 free with an automatic state qualifying time of 52.69, while Sean Vasi (6:03.99) and Michael Bohlke (6:10.67) took first and second place respectively in the 500 free. The 200 freestyle relay also finished first with the team of Luke Fote, Juvencio, Salvo Scata, and Ugrak. Other notable races included second place finishes from Fote in the 200 free (2:09.95), Juvencio in the 200 IM (2:27.11), and Scata in the 50 free (25.08) and 100 fly (1:05.14). Ugrak also had a second state qualifying time in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.33.
